Yakisugi Ash Bowl
This is a big statement piece.
A completely new form for me that takes its inspiration from greek bowls similar to a lebes vessel where the base is disproportionately smaller than the main body.
As with my previous Ash pieces this comes from a locally sourced naturally fallen tree.
It has a ribbed exterior that adds a level of texture and amplifies the distortion from the natural drying process.
The internal is smooth apart from the rim that has a light ribbed area.
I decided a Yakkisigi finsih was needed for this bowl.
Its finished in natural tung oil that allows the surface be both matt and satin dependant on the light.
