Ash Yakisugi Vessel #6 of 8
Crafted from naturally fallen Ash sourced in the picturesque Ribble Valley,
Whilsyt turning this vessel I created ribs that run against the grain to add a layer of complexity to the texture, Thsi can be found on two sides of the piece whilst the two other sideas are smoother
After the vessel was turned it has been allowed to dry and naturally distort.
The piece is more of an oval shap now.
Once stabilized, it underwent the traditional Yakisugi process, it was a particularly precarious process on this piece as the fissures really pop out.
A stiff brush was then employed to burnish the grain, transforming it into a really tactile experience.
The piece has been partaially finished with wax, imparting a soft sheen that highlights its unique textures and form.
